Science-Policy Integration Program Researcher Training
Scientific expertise remains essential to shaping Ukraine's resilience, recovery, and future, especially as the Russian full-scale war has deepened long-standing challenges and created new, urgent ones. However, even though Ukrainian researchers continue their work under extraordinary pressure, often with limited institutional support, they have few structured opportunities to engage in the public decision-making processes where their expertise is most needed.
This Science-Policy Researcher Training Program is part of the Science and Innovation Fund for Ukraine's broader Science-Policy Integration Program, which aims to build durable links between science and policymaking in Ukraine. This program is designed for researchers who want to contribute their expertise to public challenges - offering structured training, connection with peers and mentors, and a path toward long-term engagement.
Program Details
The training will take place over several months and includes:
- Online orientation to introduce participants and core concepts
- 2-day in-person module at the start of training
- Weekly online sessions (~1.5 hours/week)
- 2-day in-person module at conclusion of training (tentative)
All travel and lodging expenses for the in-person modules will be covered. To successfully complete the program, participants are expected to attend the in-person modules, participate in at least 80% of online sessions, and complete several brief written assignments and presentations.
In addition to lectures and self-paced learning, participants will learn from experienced practitioners and organizations engaged in science-policy work in Ukraine and abroad.
Eligibility Criteria
We welcome applicants who:
- Are Ukrainian citizens
- Are based in or affiliated with Ukrainian research institutions or universities
- Hold a PhD / Candidate of Science / Doctor of Science, or are advanced PhD students
- Are interested in applying their expertise to public policy
- Have sufficient English proficiency to participate in training
- Have not previously received a certificate of completion for the Science-Policy Integration Program Researcher Training
No prior policy experience is required, but preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate a clear interest in applying their expertise to public challenges and a commitment to engaging beyond academia.

Application Instructions
It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that all uploaded documents are accurate, legible, complete, not password-protected or secured. Once an application has been submitted as FINAL applicants will not be able to make changes to their application.
Please be aware that all application materials submitted will be shared with the selection panel.
All application materials become the property of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and will not be returned. Applicants should retain copies of all submitted application materials for their personal records.
Process
1. Register
Click on the "Register" link and complete and submit the registration form.
2. Login
Log in to the Science and Innovation Fund for Ukraine System with your email and password.
3. Create
Create your online application. You will need to complete the applicant and eligibility sections before you can begin the rest of the application. Please make sure that the eligibility sections are correct before saving as you won't be able to change this section later.
4. Save
During the Call for Applications period, your application can be saved as DRAFT until all the required information is completed and attachments uploaded. As each section is complete, you will see a 
appear in the category tab when the application is saved. At any time, you can download and print your application by clicking on the 
icon in the Application Summary section.
5. Submit
On completion, save your Application as FINAL. Download and print a copy of your application for your records by clicking on the icon in the Application Summary section in the right column.

Fellowship Opportunity
At the end of the training, a select group of participants may be invited to join a 6-12-month, part-time paid fellowship - the second component of the program - working with Ukrainian policymakers. This offers a unique opportunity to apply research expertise directly to real policy challenges within government and public institutions.
You will be asked to signify your interest in this fellowship opportunity in the application.
